Since the falling back of the daylight hours, a new trend in weekly disc golf has developed in Norman: Night Golf! For some weeks now, the McClellan family homestead has played host to Wednesday and Friday night Glow Doubles.
Golfers use duct tape to strap illuminating objects to their discs, glow sticks and L.E.D. lights being the two most popular. This provides a stimulating light show as your disc travels toward the hole as well as, helping you find where it comes to rest. To narrow your aim, Mitch has wired up all of the old dome top baskets to accommodate a light bulb, which casts an illuminated "green" surrounding the target. The layout for Night Golf is 9 holes, played twice around, from short and long tees. Adding to the fun, in traditional Mitch Mac style, you might find a target adorned with deer antlers guarding the basket or find that the target is hanging, suspended in the air. The entry fee is ten dollars per person and your partner is randomly drawn. The majority of the purse is paid back to the cash finishers and the proceeds are going to benefit the Mac Classic, held on fourth of July weekend, which Mitch plans on sanctioning with the PDGA this year. Night Golf at the McClellan's has even earned a Tour Stop on Chris Himing's Innova Tour de Disc Golf. The format for this event will be Glow Singles and someone will win an Innova Traveler portable target. For more information on Glow Doubles contact Mitch McClellan.
